About the role

Join the North Coast Branch of NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) as an Assistant Spatial Data Officer (SDO) supporting a range of land management and conservation initiatives across both existing NPWS estate and new lands.  Working closely with the Spatial Data Officer, you’ll be relied upon to undertake diverse Geographical Information Systems (GIS) data services including technical support, database management, field data capture, and map production.  You’ll also participate in the development and testing of new spatial systems to support program delivery. 

 

This rewarding role offers plenty of variety where a typical day could include:

  • establishing and maintaining GIS databases including capturing and validating data from various sources
  • using the various NPWS enterprise information systems including Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) spatial software and the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system to assist in data management processes
  • contributing to the development and implementation of new systems and applications for spatial data capture, storage and access
  • providing technical advice and supporting Branch staff to use spatial tools and ESRI software effectively
  • supporting a range of GIS tasks including analysis and map production to fulfil diverse end uses

 

The role will involve occasional travel to undertake fieldwork as required.

 

About you

The role is suited to a natural collaborator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders coupled with a proven track record juggling multiple tasks with competing deadlines.  It will be highly regarded if you also have:

  • working knowledge of GIS concepts and their practical application in supporting environmental management activities
  • experience with using spatial data in GIS, including ESRI products
  • experience in data management principles within a geodatabase in accordance with defined standards.

 

Essential requirements

  • Current Australian Driver’s licence
  • Willingness to fly in light aircraft
