  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $124,322 to $138,494 + super

 

Our Threatened Species and Ecosystems Policy Branch with the Strategic Policy Science and Engagement Division is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Policy Officer to contribute to the development of strategic policy, legislative and regulatory reforms, and whole‑of‑government initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to work on complex, high‑profile policy issues that impact communities across NSW, while collaborating with talented policy, science and operational professionals.

 

As a Senior Policy Officer, you will contribute to policy development projects, support the design of legislative and regulatory reforms, and provide high‑quality, evidence‑based advice to support senior executives, Ministers and key stakeholders. You will research and analyse complex policy problems, scan the external operating environment, and liaise with senior staff and internal experts to understand emerging issues, scientific insights and operational realities. The role also involves preparing policy options, contributing to policy evaluations, and supporting initiatives that strengthen strategic policy capability across the division.

 

About You

 

You have a strong interest in public policy and government decision-making, and enjoy navigating complex policy, legislative, regulatory and stakeholder environments.

 

You bring well-developed analytical skills and sound judgement, with the ability to progress complex policy work in a fast-paced government setting, balancing competing priorities and risks. You work collaboratively across teams and agencies, communicate clearly in written and verbal briefings, and support team outcomes by sharing knowledge and providing guidance to colleagues.

 

A strong understanding of government systems, legislative processes, policy frameworks and public sector governance will be highly regarded.

 

Key knowledge and experience

 

  • Understanding of the machinery of Government and the policy process or demonstrated ability to acquire knowledge quickly.
  • Experience in providing support and advice at the senior executive level.

 

Essential requirements

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience.
