The Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) is currently seeking to appoint an Associate Director First Nations Outcome position to create meaningful change and ensure First Nations voices are central to the renewable energy transition.
This is an Aboriginal Identified role where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977).
About the Role
EnergyCo is seeking a passionate and strategic leader to drive meaningful and lasting outcomes for First Nations people and communities across New South Wales’ Renewable Energy Zones (REZs).
This senior specialist role leads the design, development and implementation of the EnergyCo Aboriginal Outcomes Strategy. Working in close partnership with First Nations communities, Traditional Owners, and internal business areas, you will champion culturally inclusive engagement and deliver place-based social and economic initiatives that create long-term benefits for First Nations peoples within REZ regions.

About You
You are an experienced and values-driven leader with demonstrated expertise in First Nations policy, strategy and community engagement.
You bring a strong understanding of the issues affecting First Nations communities, particularly within regional, infrastructure and large-scale development contexts. You are confident translating strategic priorities into practical, place-based initiatives that deliver meaningful social and economic outcomes.
You have proven experience designing and implementing complex programs, supported by strong governance, clear reporting and sound financial and resource management. Your ability to navigate complexity ensures initiatives are delivered effectively, transparently and in alignment with community and organisational objectives.
A skilled communicator and negotiator, you build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders, including First Nations communities, senior executives and government partners. You demonstrate high levels of cultural capability and bring a deep commitment to supporting First Nations self-determination, inclusion and sustainable long-term outcomes.
In addition, you will have:
- Strong knowledge of regional NSW communities and experience working effectively with Aboriginal communities, underpinned by demonstrated cultural competency.
- Proven ability to implement systems and processes that support high-quality program delivery and governance.
- Experience leading teams through change, evaluating outcomes and driving continuous improvement.
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or relevant equivalent experience.
- This is an identified role under section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977 for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
- is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
- identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
- is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.

Who we are
The Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) is a statutory corporation established under the Energy and Utilities Administration Act 1987 and governed by its Board, appointed by the Minister for Energy. EnergyCo is a Staff Agency employing all EnergyCo staff and is an agency related to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).
EnergyCo plays a pivotal role in the NSW Government’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, which aims to transform the state’s electricity system into one that is cheap, clean, and reliable. As Infrastructure Planner under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act 2020,
EnergyCo is responsible for leading the delivery of the State’s first five Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) and the first two priority transmission infrastructure projects (PTIPs), which are located in the Central-West Orana, New England, South West, Hunter-Central Coast, and Illawarra regions.
We work closely with communities, investors, and industry to investigate, plan, recommend and coordinate generation, storage and network infrastructure projects.
