EnergyCo NSW is spearheading the transition to renewable energy to deliver clean electricity to the people of NSW as coal-fired power stations near closure.
About the Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join the EnergyCo Legal Team as a Legal Officer and contribute to the delivery of major energy reforms in New South Wales. Working under supervision, you will provide legal advice on transactional, commercial and regulatory matters across the electricity sector, including initiatives under the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap and broader energy law reforms. The role offers the chance to work on complex legal and policy issues, support significant infrastructure and market projects and collaborate with key government agencies and national energy market bodies.
About You
You are an early-career legal professional with experience or a strong interest in energy, commercial, or administrative law. You have sound legal research and analytical skills and the ability to provide clear, practical legal advice while working collaboratively within a team environment.
You are organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to projects within set timeframes. Your strong written communication skills enable you to draft and review legal documents and prepare concise advice that supports informed decision-making.
Essential Requirements
- Admitted or qualified for admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in the Supreme Court of NSW.
- Hold, or be eligible to hold, a NSW Practicing Certificate.

Who we are?
The Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) is a statutory corporation established under the Energy and Utilities Administration Act 1987 and governed by its Board, appointed by the Minister for Energy. EnergyCo is a Staff Agency employing all EnergyCo staff and is an agency related to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).
EnergyCo plays a pivotal role in the NSW Government’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, which aims to transform the state’s electricity system into one that is cheap, clean, and reliable. As Infrastructure Planner under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act 2020, EnergyCo is responsible for leading the delivery of the State’s first five Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) and the first two priority network infrastructure projects (formerly priority transmission infrastructure projects), which are located in the Central-West Orana, New England, South West, Hunter-Central Coast, and Illawarra regions. We work closely with communities, investors, and industry to investigate, plan, recommend and coordinate generation, storage and network infrastructure projects.
We acknowledge the ongoing custodial responsibilities of the Aboriginal peoples of NSW to care for Country and water and are committed to establishing meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal peoples in the management of the environment.
