Our Hunter Central Coast Ecosystems and Threatened Species (EaTS) team is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Threatened Species Officer to lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of programs that support the conservation of ecosystems, threatened species and threatened ecological communities. The Hunter Central Coast EaTS team engages and collaborates with individual landholders, community, non-government organisations and other government partners to implement on-ground recovery programs for threatened plants, animals and ecosystems that protect, restore and enhance the natural environment.
About the role
Join the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) and help protect and restore our state’s unique biodiversity. As a Senior Threatened Species Officer, you will play a key role in developing and delivering threatened species conservation projects across regional NSW.
In this role, you will prioritise and implement evidence-based conservation strategies, provide expert technical and legislative advice, and contribute to environmental impact assessments to support positive outcomes for threatened species and ecological communities. You’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders, communities, and conservation partners to drive practical, on‑ground recovery actions and raise awareness of biodiversity conservation.
We are looking for a motivated conservation professional with strong analytical skills, experience working with threatened species or ecological communities, and the ability to build productive relationships. You’ll be confident navigating complex issues, communicating scientific concepts, and contributing to high-quality conservation planning and project delivery.

About You
We are looking for an experienced and passionate conservation professional who is committed to protecting NSW’s threatened species and ecological communities. You will bring strong scientific knowledge, proven problem‑solving skills, and the ability to translate environmental data into meaningful conservation action.
You thrive in collaborative environments, can build effective partnerships with stakeholders and communities, and are confident providing expert advice on conservation, policy, and environmental impact assessments. You’re adaptable, resilient, and able to navigate complex issues while keeping a clear focus on delivering high-quality conservation outcomes.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- A degree in science or a related natural resource discipline.
- The ability to plan, coordinate and deliver threatened species conservation projects.
- Strong communication skills to engage communities, share scientific concepts, and influence positive conservation decisions.
- Experience analysing ecological information, assessing threats, and contributing to practical, evidence-based solutions.
- Confidence working both independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to integrity, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- A valid Australian driver’s licence (4WD experience desirable).
