The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust, as part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), has an exciting opportunity for a Media and Communications Support Officer to help promote our conservation opportunities to landowners, our partners and members of the private land conservation community.

About the role

Are you passionate about protecting NSW’s unique biodiversity and skilled in creating engaging, accessible communications? The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust is seeking a motivated Media and Communications Support Officer to help deliver customer‑focused content that enhances community understanding and supports biodiversity outcomes across the state.

 

In this dynamic role, you’ll support the Media and Communications team to produce high‑quality content, stakeholder communications and digital engagement materials that promote the agency’s programs and strengthen relationships with landholders, partners, investors, donors and the wider community.

You will contribute to multi‑channel content creation, assist with marketing campaigns, co-ordinate project logistics, and ensure timely delivery of communication activities across online and offline channels.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting the creation and delivery of content for the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust’s programs across owned, earned, and paid channels.
  • Using digital platforms to optimise content delivery, accessibility and engagement.
  • Assisting with external communications, project coordination. and reporting
  • Responding to basic media and public enquiries under supervision
  • Contributing to staff communications, intranet updates and engagement initiatives.
  • Managing multimedia assets to support content production.
  • Supporting the agency’s business brands and ensuring availability and correct use of brand assets.

 

About You

We are looking for a motivated and detail‑oriented communications professional who is passionate about supporting biodiversity conservation in NSW. You will thrive in a fast‑paced environment, enjoy working collaboratively, and bring strong written, digital and organisational skills to a team that delivers high‑quality, customer‑focused communication initiatives.

You will be someone who:

  • Communicates clearly, writes well‑structured content, and can present ideas in plain English across a variety of channels.
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues, builds positive relationships, and supports others to achieve shared outcomes.
  • Can plan and prioritise tasks, manage competing deadlines and adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Is confident using digital communication tools and platforms, with experience or interest in creative applications such as, but not limited to, online design and video post-production programs, email marketing platforms and website CRMs and the Microsoft Office suite of tools including Word, Excel, SharePoint, MS Teams, Planner Boards and CoPilot..
  • Shows initiative, welcomes feedback, and is committed to learning and developing new skills.
  • Brings a customer‑focused mindset and can support effective stakeholder engagement, logistics coordination, and content delivery across online and offline channels.
  • Holds relevant tertiary qualifications.

Essential Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in related discipline and/or relevant equivalent experience.

Who we are

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) works to protect the state’s environment and heritage. It leads the way on climate change, driving the sustainable transition to a net zero economy, powered by affordable, reliable, and clean energy.

The New South Wales Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) is a not-for-profit statutory body, established under Part 10 of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and managed by a Board appointed by the Minister for the Environment.

The Trust’s roles are to support and encourage landholders to enter into agreements to conserve and protect biodiversity on private land, guided by the government’s Biodiversity Conservation Investment Strategy; secure biodiversity offsets when developers choose to pay into the Biodiversity Conservation Fund; and other activities that promote greater awareness of, appreciation and understanding of, biodiversity and the importance of conserving it.

We acknowledge the ongoing custodial responsibilities of the Aboriginal peoples of NSW to care for Country and are committed to establishing meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal peoples in the management of the environment.

 

Participation in the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme (BOS) and the BCT’s private land conservation (PLC) programs

The successful applicant for this role will be required to declare any conflict of interests related to the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme, as defined in the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme Conflict of Interests Protocol. This ensures the department is made aware of potential conflicts of interest so they can be appropriately managed.

Where an applicant has a high-risk “defined interest” in the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme, they may be required to divest this interest before being employed by the department.

The Department is committed to protecting the public interest and public trust in the exercise of its functions. The BCT also has restrictions on staff participation in its funded PLC programs. No additional funding, beyond that already agreed to by the BCT, may be sought or approved during time as a BCT employee or for a 12-month period following termination of employment.
