  • Full-time opportunity available (35 hours per week), we welcome applications from candidates interested in either ongoing or temporary employment for this role
  • Office location is Flexible - hybrid working supported 
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $124,322 to $138,494 + super 

 

 

Our Planning Coordination & Advice team within the Conservation Planning and Offsets Division is seeking a Senior Planning Conservation Officer to review and provide advice on biodiversity assessment needed in the planning system, including major projects and for local government, and supporting the government’s priorities for housing, infrastructure and energy transition. This role offers the opportunity to provide high‑quality biodiversity advice and ensure high quality information and reporting is used for decision-making. 

 

In this position, you will provide expert guidance to local and state government, industry and proponents on complex planning and environmental matters, with a specific focus on biodiversity. You will contribute to the implementation of the biodiversity offsets scheme, including assessing serious and irreversible impacts on biodiversity. 

 

About You 

 

To be successful in the role you will have experience in the following: 

  • strong knowledge of NSW planning legislation, policy frameworks and biodiversity assessment  
  • demonstrated ability to interpret complex technical information and provide clear, balanced, evidence‑based advice 
  • excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills 
  • the ability to manage competing priorities and operate confidently within complex or fast‑moving environments 
  • a collaborative, constructive approach to problem‑solving and team contribution 

 

Key knowledge and experience 

  • Experience providing statutory and strategic planning advice aligned with government legislation, policies and environmental planning frameworks. 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, councils, proponents and stakeholders to support coordinated planning outcomes. 
  • Experience reviewing complex environmental and biodiversity issues to inform evidence‑based planning advice. 
  • Proven ability to influence and support senior internal stakeholders using sound technical judgement. 
 

Essential requirements 

  • Current Driver’s Licence.
