The role

As the Head of Media, Marketing & Strategic Engagement you will lead and support public affairs and marketing, and stakeholder engagement, developing and implementing strategies and programs that enhance and protect the organisation’s brand and reputation. You will strengthen collaboration and ensure the delivery of high-quality, responsive information to stakeholders.

 

You will advise senior executives on emerging public affairs issues, coach leaders on unified messaging, and oversee the design and delivery of external communications plans. You will lead marketing campaigns to promote programs and events, manage brand consistency across all channels, and represent the Office of Sport in key forums.  As a leader within the Office, you will support and continue to develop a high performing team to deliver and mature an essential function and service to the Office leaders and teams.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of external communication strategies and campaigns that promote the Office of Sport’s strategic priorities and unified messaging.
  • Provide high‑level advice to the Deputy Secretary and Senior Executives on stakeholder engagement, emerging public affairs issues, and sensitive communications, proactively managing reputational risk.
  • Coordinate with the Minister’s Office to manage sensitive matters, expedite information flow, and identify implications and required actions.
  • Design, lead, and maintain integrated stakeholder engagement programs, marketing activities, events, and initiatives that build awareness of grants, sponsorships, and behavioural change programs.
  • Strengthen the Office of Sport’s public profile and media image by ensuring brand consistency across publications, digital platforms, and social media.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including media organisations, to support accurate information sharing and enhance understanding of strategic priorities.
  • Lead and coach teams to deliver strategic priorities, providing clear direction, guidance, and fostering a high‑performance culture.
  • Oversee stakeholder communications and public profile management with a high degree of autonomy, escalating sensitive or high‑profile media enquiries as required.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated, relevant equivalent professional experience and training.
  • Obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.

Preferred 

  • Demonstrated Government Public Affairs and Marketing management experience in a diverse business environment.
  • Substantial knowledge or awareness of government communication and engagement policies and processes.
