About the team
The Cyber Security team sits within the IT function at the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) and plays a key role in protecting the department’s systems, services, and information assets. The team works collaboratively to manage cyber risk, support compliance obligations, and promote a strong culture of cyber security awareness across the organisation.
The Cyber Security Officer is a newly created role to support the Cyber Security team with day-to-day cyber security work and to assist with the delivery of core cyber security activities.
About the role
As a Cyber Security Officer, you will support security operations by assisting with vulnerability analysis, incident response activities, and maintaining security controls across systems and services. You will contribute to operational cyber security work, including risk, audit, compliance, and reporting activities, while supporting continuous improvement across the cyber function.
This role is well suited to someone looking to build hands-on experience in cyber security within a large, complex environment.
About you
You have practical experience working in cyber security and have supported a range of activities across security operations, risk, compliance, and incident response. You bring working knowledge of cyber security principles and have applied them in real‑world environments to support day‑to‑day security outcomes.
You are confident working within cyber security frameworks, policies, and standards, and can adapt your approach as priorities and risks change. You have exposure to scripting or automation tools and use these to support analysis, reporting, or operational tasks. You work well as part of a team, contribute constructively to shared outcomes, and are keen to continue developing your technical and professional capability in a complex enterprise setting.
Essential requirements
Tertiary qualifications in computer science, information and technology or related technical field and/or relevant experience.
