  • 6x Environmental officer 7 - Remote Sensing Scientist positions
  • Location: Parramatta, Grafton, Albury, Dubbo, Newcastle
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $109,102 to $120,542 + super and leave loading

 

Exciting opportunities exist within the Remote Sensing and Regulatory Mapping Team in roles that will guide and deliver environmental remote sensing products across the agency. The Remote Sensing and Regulatory Mapping Team values a culture of shared knowledge, technical spatial skills and working collaboratively from a range of locations across NSW.

The positions are:

  • 4 x Remote Sensing Scientist within the Regulatory Mapping Team to develop on-ground applications of remote sensing to implement environmental legislation.
  • 1 x Remote Sensing Scientist position in the Vegetation Monitoring Team. This position delivers remote sensing solutions to guide compliance action.
  • 1 x Remote Sensing Scientist position in the Spatial Imagery Services Team. This position facilitates the procurement, analysis and application, of aerial and satellite imagery to NSW government.

About You

The Remote Sensing Scientist will contribute to multiple programs, responsible for the delivery of a range of high-quality remote sensing products that support environmental outcomes for NSW government. This is an excellent opportunity to support the implementation of environmental regulation, monitor state wide native vegetation clearing, and deliver satellite imagery to NSW state government to support natural hazard mitigation and land management programs

You will bring your passion for science and the environment, combined with your technical skills in remote sensing, image interpretation and GIS to work on programs that contribute to government decision making and on ground environmental outcomes.

You will be keen to learn new skills and share your knowledge in joining a large team of remote sensing and imagery interpretation experts distributed across NSW. This provides opportunities to gain a range of experience across multiple programs and further develop your career. You will have the option of working from the office or combining office and working from home.

Key knowledge and experience

 

  • Demonstrated experience with remote sensing and/or GIS software; managing large and/or complex spatial datasets well regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience of delivering statewide (or similar) scientifically rigorous projects using remote sensed imagery interpretation, analysis and assessment.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to co-ordinate day-to-day project activities.

 

Essential Requirements

  • A degree in science or other relevant discipline.

Desirable:

  • Scripting experience in python or linux.
  • Experience working on statewide regulatory datasets or statewide vegetation monitoring programs
  • Experience with a wide range of satellite imagery products and applications
  • Experience interpretating environmental legislation
