  • Temporary (Up to June 2027) full-time (35 hours per week) opportunity
  • Queanbeyan office location
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $134,421 to $148,239 + super

 

Our Conservation Programs team is seeking a Senior Project Officer to that would be responsible for input towards the Snowy Water Inquiry Outcomes Implementation Deed (SWIOID) review and impending Snowy Water Licence review on behalf of the NSW DCCEEW Water for the Environment program. This role contributes to meaningful outcomes by supporting environmental water planning, delivery and evidence‑based program delivery within a collaborative and high performing team environment.

 

The role will operate within the Southern Environmental Water and Floodplain team which is responsible for the management of environmental water in the south of NSW, including the Snowy and montane rivers.  This geographically dispersed team is comprised of dedicated, passionate people who want to leave positive legacies for our rivers, floodplains and wetlands, their biota and human communities.

 

About You

 

You are an experienced project management professional with a proven ability to work within complex legislative frameworks and policy settings.  You bring strong analytical and organisational skills, sound judgement and the ability to prepare clear recommendations that support evidence‑based decision‑making. You are confident overseeing project plans, managing budgets and ensuring projects meet time, scope and quality requirements.

 

Collaborative and adaptable, you build effective relationships with stakeholders, navigate diverse viewpoints and help resolve project‑related issues constructively. You have excellent communication and organisational skills, collaborate closely with team members and can communicate complex issues to team members and the Executive staff.  You have a demonstrated ability to be highly self-motivated, organised, work autonomously whilst in a team environment and contribute to a positive project and team culture. Your ability to balance multiple priorities, manage competing deadlines and provide thoughtful advice will contribute to the success of environmental programs that benefit communities and ecosystems across NSW.

 

Key knowledge and experience

  • Experience in a senior project management role, operating in complex legislative/policy frameworks, coordinating the successful delivery of project deliverables and objectives.
  • An understanding of the Snowy Hydro Corporatisation Act, the Snowy Water Inquiry Outcomes Implementation Deed and Snowy Hydro Scheme and a general understanding of the Snowy and montane rivers systems would be an advantage but not essential.

 

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience.
