About the role
We are seeking an experienced and commercially‑minded Senior Project Officer to support the design, implementation and delivery of the NSW Clean Technology Innovation Program.
In this role, you will lead the development and management of targeted clean technology initiatives that support businesses to progress innovative technologies from research through to demonstration and early commercial deployment.
You will work closely with industry, research organisations and government partners to deliver grant programs and complementary activities that accelerate emissions reduction, strengthen domestic clean technology capability and deliver strong value for public investment.
You will play a key role in ensuring funded projects are well‑governed, technically credible and aligned with NSW Government climate, net zero and industry objectives, while navigating complex stakeholder, policy and delivery environments.
What you’ll do
You’re a proactive project leader who is comfortable operating at the intersection of innovation, policy and delivery.
You’ll manage clean technology initiatives from program design through to contract management and acquittal, ensuring they are evidence‑based, commercially informed and deliver measurable outcomes for NSW. This includes:
- Managing a portfolio of funded innovation projects, overseeing contracting, milestones, payments, risk management and compliance across diverse technology areas and proponents
- Working closely with industry, researchers and other government agencies to assess technical readiness, commercial potential and co-funding opportunities aligned to Technology Readiness Level and commercialisation pathways
- Supporting, designing and delivering clean technology grant programs and related initiatives, including guidelines, assessment frameworks, business cases, governance and reporting arrangements
- Using data, evaluation and market intelligence to monitor performance, support continuous improvement and inform future clean technology program and policy development

Demonstrated experience sought:
- Relevant degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics (STEM), and/or minimum 5 years working in a field related to innovative technology development.
- Thorough contract management experience, including complex funding deed construction with Legal experts, and commercial negotiations with multi-million-dollar technology stakeholders.
- Deep knowledge of research, development and commercialisation stages including knowledge of the Technological Readiness Level (TRL) and Commercialisation Readiness Index (CRI) and how they apply within the NSW and Australian context.
- Experience managing multi-million-dollar grant rounds from design to acquittal, including the use of Grants Management Systems including Smarty Grants.
