  • Temporary full-time (up to 19 March 2027) opportunity
  • Located in Queanbeyan (other locations will be considered) with flexible and hybrid working arrangements available
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $109,102 to $120,542 + super

 

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for two Aboriginal Heritage Officers to join Heritage NSW and contribute to heritage initiatives, programs and services! 

This is an Aboriginal Identified role where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977). 

As an Aboriginal Heritage Officer, you will join a small and supportive team to help deliver heritage initiatives, programs, and services for Aboriginal heritage matters. You’ll provide sound advice on Aboriginal cultural heritage matter to a range of stakeholders including the local communities, government agencies, schools and interest groups.

 

About You

You will have a strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural heritage matters gained through tertiary qualification or experience in a related field which will be key to your success. You will be proficient at demonstrating sensitivity towards Aboriginal cultural heritage matters and fostering positive outcomes for Aboriginal communities in NSW. Recognising and respecting the cultural protocols, particularly acknowledging that Aboriginal people are the original custodians of the land, is essential. This acknowledgment of Aboriginal people’s knowledge ensures their cultural practices are integrated into program outcomes. Your ability to navigate complex issues with sensitivity and respect will contribute to creating an inclusive environment where Aboriginal heritage is recognised, respected, and celebrated. As many of the key stakeholders are in various locations, you’ll be willing to undertake travel and hold a current driver’s licence.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications or sound experience in heritage, Aboriginal cultural heritage or relevant field.
  • Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel.
  • This is an Identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role.
  • Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:

               1. is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and

               2. identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and

               3. is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
