The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is seeking to appoint a Senior Investigations Officer to lead and deliver complex investigations into potential breaches of conduct, governance and integrity requirements.
About the role
As a Senior Investigations Officer, you will conduct and lead complex investigations relating to alleged misconduct, maladministration, fraud, corruption and other serious wrongdoing across the Department. Working closely with the Manager Investigations, you will support early intervention and prevention strategies, while promoting a culture where ethical conduct and accountability are valued and upheld.
You will operate with a high level of autonomy, balancing competing priorities and statutory timeframes, and engaging confidently with senior leaders, staff, central agencies and integrity bodies such as ICAC and the NSW Ombudsman.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Lead and deliver complex investigations into alleged conduct, policy and governance breaches
- Prepare investigation plans, delegate briefings and comprehensive final reports with clear, evidence-based recommendations
- Manage sensitive and highly confidential matters with discretion and professionalism
- Provide expert advice on ethics, conduct, governance and investigative best practice
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to progress matters and address systemic risks
- Identify control weaknesses and suggest governance improvements using data and insights
- Contribute to fraud and corruption prevention initiatives, learning programs and early intervention strategies
- Support, mentor and guide team members, including supervision of direct reports as required
About you
You are a skilled investigation professional with sound judgement, strong ethical foundations and the confidence to navigate complex and sensitive issues.
You will bring:
- Sound knowledge of NSW Government processes and the public sector integrity environment
- Demonstrated experience conducting formal investigations, including evidence gathering and analysis
- Experience leading or coordinating investigations and managing complex caseloads
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, well-reasoned reports
- The ability to manage sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism
Essential requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience in investigations, governance, risk or integrity functions
