About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has a unique opportunity for a casual Discovery Ranger to work as part of the South Coast team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage. 

As a Discovery Ranger, you will be required to develop and implement diverse activities and learning experiences for visitors to Shoalhaven and Illawarra national parks and support significant planned program expansion including revitalised education programs and new delivery in Fitzroy Falls, Killalea Regional Park and Murramarang National Park.

 

About You

Your strong communication skills are paramount to the success of this role. You will be delivering programs to different stakeholders and will need to be able to think on your feet to respond to various questions and situations. Self-management is important for this role as there may be times you will be working alone and will need to ensure safety is a priority meeting the required Work Health Safety standards. Your experience in teaching and education will be highly valued. Demonstrated passion for geography and science, the Australian environment and awareness of NPWS values.

 

Essential requirements

  • A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement for this role. The role has been identified as requiring this check in line with the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012.
  • First Aid Certificate and Current Australian Drivers Licence, or willingness to obtain.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekdays, weekends, public holidays and school holidays
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering interpretative guiding and/or educational programs to students or groups.
  • Awareness of Aboriginal culture and broad knowledge of the natural and historic heritage values of the local area.
  • Sound understanding of Risk Management, Minimal Impact and Bush Safety principles in relation to guided tours in a cultural or field setting.
