About the role
The National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Team Leader with genuine interest in Native Title to join a small team that contributes to influencing mutually beneficial long‑term Aboriginal outcomes that focus on Country, visitation and conservation.
The successful applicant will contribute to a specialist team delivering best‑practice native title compliance and policy advice to Operational and Program branches across NPWS. The Team Leader Negotiations will provide NPWS input into whole‑of‑government Indigenous Land Use Agreements negotiations and lead NPWS standalone negotiations. This is a pivotal role for someone who thrives in complex stakeholder environments.
This role manages a small project team, provides guidance and support, monitors and appraises work performance and facilitates ongoing professional development to ensure the staff are capable to successfully deliver all key project/s milestones and outcomes.
The Team Leader Negotiations is responsible for providing project management services specific to the native title program, including preparation and maintenance of project documentation to support internal, and as required external, project teams established to develop and deliver native title outcomes. A significant aspect of the role is overseeing the coordinated collection of input from relevant NPWS Area and Branch staff that will be used to inform NPWS negotiation positions and support staff in change management resulting from native title negotiation outcomes.
About You
You will have knowledge of Native Title process and legislation. You will have demonstrable negotiation skills with examples where you have represented your employer, maintained a high level of confidentiality and collected, collated and reported on internal and external information. You will be able to demonstrate maintenance of a register of supporting material to track decision points and outcomes from negotiations
As a Team Leader you will have experience operating with a high level of autonomy, make day-to-day decisions relating to work priorities and workload management, for yourself and staff you supervise. You will be accountable for the delivery of assigned projects on time and at or below budget.
In addition, you will have experience building meaningful relationships and effective communication with interagency staff and internal staff, whilst exercising sound judgement in managing risks, issues and recommending responses in consultation with the relevant Branch and Operational staff. You will provide high level project management, written, verbal and analysis advice for executive and ministerial consideration.

- Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent, relevant professional experience.
- Ability to undertake travel within NSW.
- Current Australian Driver’s Licence.
