Our Ministerial Services Branch is seeking a Ministerial Liaison Officer to provide high‑quality advice and coordination support on matters relating to the Department’s portfolios of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, Heritage and Water. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with the Minister’s Office, senior executives and internal stakeholders, supporting informed decision‑making on complex and often sensitive issues.
About the role
In this role, you will coordinate, draft and edit Ministerial, Parliamentary and executive briefing materials, speaking points and responses to urgent and sensitive matters. You will provide advice on politically and socially complex issues, ensure materials meet required protocols and standards, and support the delivery of corporate and government priorities. The role also involves identifying emerging issues and risks, coordinating cross‑divisional input, supporting governance processes and contributing to projects of strategic significance. Additionally, this role is in the Events and Education team, which oversees Ministerial visits, events and internal communications projects. You will work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment where accuracy, judgement and discretion are critical.
About You
You are an experienced policy, communications or coordination professional with a strong ability to work on complex, sensitive or controversial issues. You bring sound judgement, strong analytical capability and the ability to synthesise information from multiple sources to support timely, well‑reasoned advice. You are comfortable working with senior executives and understand the importance of protocols, confidentiality and accuracy in Ministerial and executive environments.
Collaborative and adaptable, you build productive working relationships across diverse stakeholders, including internal teams, other agencies and external partners. You manage competing priorities effectively, remain composed under pressure and communicate clearly to progress issues and deliver outcomes. Your proactive, solutions‑focused approach and attention to detail will enable you to contribute meaningfully to high‑quality Ministerial services and whole‑of‑department priorities.
Key knowledge and experience
- Experience in providing advice on complex/sensitive/controversial issues to senior management or ministerial level.
- Strong communication, drafting and organisation skills.
