About the role

The SOE Engineer plays a key technical role within the Cyber Security team, responsible for the design, operation, and continuous improvement of the organisation’s Standard Operating Environment (SOE).

You will act as a key technical specialist for SOE policies, configurations, and controls, ensuring environments are secure, resilient, and aligned with NSW Government cyber security standards.

The role provides hands‑on leadership across SOE engineering, Microsoft 365 endpoint and identity services (Intune, Entra ID, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, and Conditional Access), and secure configuration management, while working closely with cyber security, infrastructure, and service delivery teams to deliver secure‑by‑design, high-quality end‑user environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own and operate the organisation’s Standard Operating Environment (SOE), including administration, monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement
  • Provide hands on technical leadership and subject matter expertise for SOE  platforms, supporting complex troubleshooting and uplift initiatives.
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure SOE policies, configurations, patching, and lifecycle activities aligned with cyber security best practice and NSW Government requirements.
  • Implement and enforce secure build, hardening, and baseline standards aligned with cyber security and architectural controls.
  • Design, deploy, and manage application lifecycle and patching through Microsoft Intune, including application packaging, deployment, updates, remediation, and version control for browsers, productivity tools, and line‑of‑business applications.
  • Implement and operate SOE security controls such as application allow‑listing and policy‑driven endpoint restrictions to support cyber security outcomes.
  • Act as a Microsoft 365 and SOE technical owner with hands‑on responsibility for Microsoft Intune, Entra ID, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Conditional Access, and endpoint identity and access controls.
  • Collaborate with cyber security, network, infrastructure, and service delivery teams to ensure SOE solutions are integrated, supportable, and operationally effective.
  • Contribute to cyber security outcomes by implementing policy driven controls, managing identity and device configurations, and providing technical advice to support service delivery.

 

About you

You bring strong experience in SOE design, configuration, and lifecycle management, with hands‑on capability across Intune, Microsoft 365 endpoint security, identity controls, and secure configuration standards. You communicate clearly, work collaboratively with technical teams, and balance operational demands with continuous improvement. You’re adaptable, customer‑focused, and committed to delivering secure, stable, and high‑quality end‑user environments.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
