- Permanent Opportunity, Part-time hours (3 days/week)
- Located at the Australian Botanic Garden – Mount Annan
- Salary relative to experience and ranges from $99,938 to $110,271 + super (pro-rata)

The role
Love sharing the wonders of nature with curious minds? As a Learning Officer, you’ll deliver hands-on education and community programs for students, families and community groups across our stunning gardens. From science and geography to environmental storytelling, you’ll bring First Nations culture to life in outdoor settings that inspire discovery and connection.
This role is all about engaging diverse audiences—from preschoolers to adults—using creative teaching techniques and flexible approaches. You’ll help shape programs, manage equipment, organise logistics and contribute to resources that reflect the Gardens’ mission and spark curiosity.
From time to time, you may also work across other Botanic Gardens of Sydney locations, including Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and Blue Mountains Botanic Garden (Mount Tomah).

What you will bring to the role
- This is an Aboriginal Identified Role requiring lived experience, strong cultural knowledge and established community connections to support authentic First Nations learning and engagement.
- Integrate and celebrate First Nations science within education and community programs through a collaborative, team focused approach.
- Demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills, with a willingness to support and collaborate with team members across multiple garden sites.
- Proven experience delivering culturally informed education and community programs for diverse ages, backgrounds and abilities, celebrating Aboriginal Cultures on Country.
- Knowledge of learning and interpretive approaches, including curriculum linked and informal education, with experience developing engaging content guided by Aboriginal community advice and First Nations Learning Leaders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and risks while ensuring safe and well-run outdoor learning experiences.
What is an essential requirement:
- This role is an identified Aboriginal role and therefore Aboriginality is an essential element including an understanding of Aboriginal culture and heritage. Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification under section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Only Aboriginal peoples are eligible to apply.
- A Working with Children Check is an essential requirement for this role. The role has been identified as requiring a check in keeping with the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012.
- Current Apply First Aid (HLTAID003) qualification or equivalent, or the ability to enrol and complete on employment.
