Step into a role where your thinking shapes how regulation delivers real-world impact. The Biodiversity and Heritage Regulator is seeking a Senior Program Officer - Strategy, Risk and Performance to lead work that sharpens our regulatory approach and strengthens accountability across the system.

In this role, you’ll drive the design and delivery of strategy, risk and performance initiatives that underpin effective regulation. You’ll develop practical frameworks, tools and reporting that turn data into clear, evidence-based insights, enabling confident decision-making at all levels. Your ability to analyse regulatory impact, identify emerging risks and provide trusted advice will directly influence how we respond to complex challenges and continuously improve outcomes.

Working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners across government and regulatory bodies, you’ll align priorities, strengthen assurance activities and build a shared understanding of performance. You’ll also play a key role in enhancing systems and processes that support transparency, robust risk management and measurable results.

About You
You’re a strategic thinker who cuts through complexity and turns it into clear, actionable direction. You know how to influence across boundaries, build alignment and deliver meaningful improvements in regulatory performance. Driven by impact, you thrive in collaborative environments and bring a sharp eye for risk, insight and opportunity.

You bring strong knowledge of regulatory strategy, risk management and performance monitoring, ideally within a government or compliance setting. You’ve delivered complex projects end-to-end, using data to develop practical, evidence-based recommendations that stand up to scrutiny. Your analytical skills allow you to connect the dots, uncover systemic issues and translate findings into real-world outcomes.

You communicate with clarity and confidence, whether you’re crafting a briefing, presenting insights or advising senior stakeholders. You’re comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities and delivering to deadlines without losing momentum or quality. Experience in governance, program evaluation or organisational performance will set you apart.
