About the role
The Team Leader Field Operations is responsible for leading a geographically dispersed team to deliver a complex and varied works program. The role is a pivotal part of the Area leadership team, both an office and field-based position dealing with many complex matters simultaneously.  On a day-to-day basis you’ll be managing, developing and coordinating staff and contractors and prioritising operations across the area.

Project management is critical to this role as you will be responsible for the coordination of a number of projects and programs, managing budgets, assigning resources and engaging contractors following all departmental procedures and quality expectations.  We manage and maintain campgrounds, picnic areas, walking tracks, roads, cultural sites and operational infrastructure. We also undertake fire, pest and conservation management.

We are passionate about the spectacular parks and reserves we manage. We live and work in a vibrant community and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders, including Aboriginal joint management committees.

About you
You’re someone who:

  • Enjoys leading teams and bringing out the best in people (especially in practical, field-based environments).
  • Can manage multiple projects at once, set priorities, and keep work moving even when conditions change.
  • Has strong operational judgement and takes safety seriously — you model it, reinforce it, and expect it.
  • Can build respectful working relationships with a wide range of people — from contractors and suppliers to community stakeholders and other agencies.
  • Manage a diverse range of operational staff that work 7 days a week.

Essential requirements

  • Project management skills and experience and the ability to effectively lead teams to ensure high staff performance and standards
  • Demonstrated ability to work with professional and field, operational; based staff to develop, implement and monitor programs across a broad geographic area
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritise competing demands that involve the planning, management and completion of works programs and construction of park/recreational facilities including capital works programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform a fire leadership role and incident control functions or willingness to undertake appropriate training to achieve required capability.
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate and driver’s licence including four-wheel driving certificate.

This is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit, enjoy working outdoors as part of a team, and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining NSW’s most precious natural places.

Applicants must meet the requirements of a specific medical assessment which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake the fitness test for firefighting fitness roles (i.e. moderate level Task-Based Assessment for Firefighters) within the 12-month probationary period, if relevant.

The role holder must obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties.
