About the Opportunity

EnergyCo will soon become the Jurisdictional Planning Body for NSW, responsible for planning a clean, reliable, and affordable electricity network through a new NSW System Plan, as primary advisor to AEMO’s Integrated System Plan, representing NSW in joint planning with network operators, market bodies and other jurisdictions, and recommending new infrastructure projects. The Chief Network Planner will lead the establishment and ongoing delivery of this function, cementing NSW’s capacity to plan its energy future with authority and rigour.

 

As Chief Network Planner, you will be NSW's pre-eminent technical and strategic leader for electricity network planning, accountable for the design of the state's electricity network and recommending new projects. Sitting on the EnergyCo Leadership Team, and reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will drive a whole-of-system approach across transmission, distribution, storage, and non-network solutions.

 

This is a high-autonomy, high-impact role. Your expert advice will inform multi-billion dollar investment decisions across the National Electricity Market for decades to come. You will be NSW's key point of contact for all network design decisions and recommendations, interfacing regularly with Ministers, market operators, regulators, and industry, and leading the technical direction of the state's Renewable Energy Zones and Priority Network Infrastructure Projects.

 

About You
You are a senior executive with deep expertise in energy infrastructure and the National Electricity Market. You bring:

  • Proven senior executive experience in energy infrastructure, renewables, and/or emerging network technologies
  • Deep understanding of National Electricity Rules and/or NSW Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act regulatory frameworks, including AEMO obligations and regulated cost recovery pathways
  • A track record of leading complex, multi-stakeholder infrastructure planning including with network operators, market bodies, consumer groups, Government, and regulators
  • Exceptional leadership on technical energy matters, and ability to influence senior executives in Board, intergovernmental, private sector, regulator, and Ministerial / Cabinet environments
  • Multi-disciplinary experience making balanced decisions integrating power system and technical analysis with regulatory, economic, commercial, and community and land use impact assessment
  • Tertiary qualifications in electrical/power engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)

 

 

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in engineering such as electrical/power or similar qualifications and/or extensive experience in related field.
