The Water Group is seeking to appoint an Associate Director Dam Safety Regulation in a full-time ongoing capacity.

Dams Safety NSW is an independent regulator established under the Dams Safety Act 2015. In line with its legislative objectives, Dams Safety NSW seeks to ensure that any risks to people and to environmental and economic assets from dams are of a level that is acceptable to the community.

About You

The Associate Director Dam Safety Regulation, a newly created role, will oversee the day-to-day operations of Dams Safety NSW, providing leadership, direction and management of the agency. The role leads audit and compliance activities to ensure effective dam safety and associated emergency planning and procedures by registered dam owners, developing and implementing dams’ safety standards in accordance with the Dams Safety Act, 2015. The role provides advice to the CEO Dams Safety NSW and members of Dams Safety NSW.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the operations of Dam Safety NSW, including strategic, financial, people and governance functions, to deliver regulatory objectives under the Dam Safety Act 2015.
  • Provide expert advice to the CEO on dam classifications, safety standards, compliance activities and regulatory outcomes.
  • Regulate and promote compliance with dam safety, operations, maintenance and emergency planning requirements, while providing guidance to declared dam owners on risk management and best practice.
  • Maintain effective stakeholder partnerships across government, industry, research organisations and universities to support contemporary dam safety practices and community awareness.

Essential Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Extensive experience in engineering, regulation, risk assessment and/or safety management
