 Lead Technical Excellence in Water Modelling Across NSW

 Are you an experienced leader in groundwater or hydraulic modelling looking to shape the future of water management in New South Wales?

DCCEEW is seeking a highly skilled Manager Groundwater and Hydraulic Modelling to lead a specialist team delivering critical modelling programs that underpin water policy, planning and floodplain management across the state.

About the Role

As a senior technical leader, you will manage and oversee the delivery of groundwater and hydraulic modelling programs that inform key government decisions and strategic direction.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and manage a team delivering high-quality groundwater and hydraulic modelling and analysis
  • Oversee modelling programs that support water sharing, resource security and floodplain management planning
  • Provide expert advice to inform policy, legislation and water licensing frameworks
  • Manage complex technical projects and embed strong project management practices
  • Drive innovation through advanced modelling techniques, data systems and automation
  • Prepare ministerial briefings, reports and advice based on robust scientific evidence
  • Represent the Department at senior levels across government, industry and academic forums
  • Build strategic partnerships to support best practice and whole-of-government outcomes

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, integrity and transparency of modelling that supports critical water management decisions for NSW.

  • Delivering complex modelling programs across multiple priorities and stakeholders
  • Leading a geographically dispersed team with diverse technical expertise
  • Communicating complex or potentially contentious modelling outcomes clearly and confidently
  • Balancing innovation, technical rigour and timely delivery of outputs

About You

You are a collaborative and forward-thinking leader with strong technical capability. You will demonstrate:

  • Advanced expertise in groundwater and/or hydraulic modelling
  • Proven experience leading teams and delivering complex technical programs or projects
  • Strong ability to translate complex modelling into clear, actionable insights
  • Experience influencing policy, planning or regulatory outcomes
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills across government, industry and academia
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of executive and ministerial briefings
  • A commitment to public sector values, integrity and accountability

Essential Requirements 

  • Relevant scientific or engineering qualifications or equivalent experience.
