  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $149,739 to $173,174 + super

Be part of a team delivering strategic leadership on water policy with a national and Murray-Darling Basin focus. The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water leads the way in protecting our environment, securing water resources, and driving sustainable outcomes for communities, industry and ecosystems across NSW.

As a Manager Policy Intergovernmental, you will play a key leadership role in shaping NSW’s position in national forums, including the Murray–Darling Basin, and influence complex policy negotiations with Commonwealth, state and territory partners.

About the Role

You will lead the development and negotiation of intergovernmental water policy and provide high-level, evidence-based advice to senior executives and Ministers.

This is a strategic and influential role requiring strong policy capability, stakeholder management and negotiation expertise in complex and politically sensitive environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of NSW water policy positions for national and interjurisdictional forums
  • Provide strategic advice to senior executives and the Minister on water policy and reform priorities
  • Analyse legislation, agreements and policy frameworks to inform negotiation strategies
  • Represent and coordinate NSW participation in intergovernmental forums and working groups
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across government and with interstate and Commonwealth stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities to improve policy outcomes aligned to NSW Government priorities
  • Oversee the preparation of Cabinet submissions, public facing government submissions, briefing materials and correspondence
  • Lead and develop a small team, including managing resources, priorities and performance 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience delivering complex policy outcomes across multiple stakeholders
  • Strong negotiation and influencing capability, particularly in intergovernmental settings
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret legislation and policy frameworks
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including preparing high-level briefings
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under tight timeframes
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and driving performance
  • A collaborative approach with the ability to build trusted relationships across NSW and with other jurisdictions

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in public policy, public administration or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience implementing public sector policies, programs or reforms
