  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $115,853.00 to $130,547.00 + super (Planning Officer Professional 1B)

The role

The Bays West Delivery Authority is charged with creating Sydney’s newest precinct, a thriving, connected, sustainable hub with White Bay Power Station as its cultural heart and well connected by the new Metro West line. Its vision is to build on the area’s natural cultural and industrial history to shape a vibrant neighbourhood combining new housing with public open space and opening access to the waterfront for the first time in more than 100 years.

 

In this role as a Planning Officer, you’ll support the delivery of key planning initiatives that directly enable housing and precinct outcomes. You’ll work across projects, undertaking research and analysis, preparing reports and advice, and collaborating with councils, agencies and stakeholders to move planning priorities forward.

 

This role is suited to someone who can bring curiosity, strong communication and the ability to translate complex planning concepts into clear, practical insights. Working in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment, you’ll help navigate competing priorities and contribute to real outcomes that unlock housing and community value.

What you will bring to the role

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to translate complex planning information into clear, practical advice
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability to support evidence-based planning decisions
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outputs within tight timeframes
  • A collaborative mindset and confidence working with diverse stakeholders across government and community
  • Attention to detail when preparing reports, briefings and data-driven insights
  • Adaptability to work effectively in a dynamic and evolving project environment

Key knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant planning and environmental legislation and processes

 

Essential requirements

  • Degree qualification in a relevant discipline
