The role
As a Senior Environmental Assessment Officer in the Industry Assessment team, you will assess major projects across a wide range of interesting and dynamic sectors that help shape communities, support economic growth and deliver critical infrastructure across NSW. You'll provide expert planning advice that balances community expectations, government priorities and statutory requirements while helping drive better planning outcomes.
Working in a fast-paced and high-profile environment, you'll tackle complex planning challenges, engage with diverse stakeholders and translate technical issues into clear, practical advice. You'll also contribute to improving assessment processes and delivering a more efficient planning system for the people of NSW.

What you will bring to the role
- Ability to assess the merits of State significant projects quickly and effectively in sectors such as manufacturing and chemical industries, renewable fuels, the circular economy including large scale waste and recycling, data centres, agricultural and aquaculture, warehouse and distribution facilities, including within the Western Sydney Aerotropolis and State activation precincts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information clearly and produce high-quality reports, briefing notes and advice.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex issues, evaluate options and develop practical solutions in challenging environments.
- Outstanding stakeholder engagement skills, with proven ability to build productive relationships and work effectively with government agencies, industry, community groups and other stakeholders.
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, deliver quality outcomes and meet benchmark timeframes in a dynamic environment.
What is an essential requirement:
- Degree in environmental science or management, planning, law, engineering or other relevant discipline
- Willingness to travel and (minimum) Class C Driver’s Licence
