Our Conservation Programs branch is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Flood Specialist to the Flood Risk Management Team in the Marine Coast Flood and Estuary Directorate to lead and support the delivery of high-impact strategic flood risk management projects, policy and initiatives across NSW.
In this senior technical role, you will develop, implement and support flood risk and related data management projects and provide expert advice on complex policy, planning matters. You will lead and contribute to state-wide programs and projects, prepare high-level reports and submissions, and work closely with internal teams, councils and industry stakeholders to deliver coordinated outcomes. You will also play a key role in responding to sensitive and emerging issues, representing the agency in forums and committees, and influencing decision-making on flood risk and land use planning matters within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
About You
You are a highly experienced flood risk professional with a strong track record delivering complex projects and providing high-level technical advice in government or similarly regulated environments. You bring sound judgement and the ability to navigate sensitive and high-profile issues with confidence.
You are a strong communicator and influencer, able to engage diverse stakeholders and translate complex information into clear, actionable insights. With proven leadership and project delivery capability, you can manage competing priorities, build collaborative relationships and drive outcomes in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment.
Key knowledge and experience
- Extensive demonstrated knowledge of flooding processes and the complex operational and strategic requirements for the development and delivery of flood risk management outcomes consistent with the policy and program.
- Comprehensive demonstrated knowledge of flood risk management policies and practice including relevant legislation, policies and guidelines and ability to represent the agency.
- Extensive demonstrated knowledge and experience in flood risk management and providing high level technical advice to stakeholders.
- Comprehensive knowledge of guidelines and legislation relevant to the delivery of flood risk management outcomes.
Essential requirements
- Appropriate degree level tertiary qualifications in civil or environmental engineering or related disciplines and eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia.
- Current Australian drivers licence and willingness to travel.
