• Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $134,421 to $148,239 + super

Our Conservation Programs branch is currently seeking to appoint two Senior Project Officer Floodplain Management roles to lead and contribute to the delivery of high-impact flood risk management programs and initiatives across NSW. The permanent role sits within the Flood Governance team, while the temporary role is in the Flood Projects team in the newly realigned Statewide Group.

In this role, you will develop and implement policies, programs and projects that improve the understanding and management of flood risk across the state. You will provide expert technical advice, prepare complex reports and submissions, and work closely with internal teams, councils and external stakeholders to deliver coordinated and effective outcomes. You will also play a key role in identifying and responding to emerging and sensitive issues, representing the agency in key forums, and supporting decision-making on complex flood risk and land-use planning matters within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.

About You

You are an experienced professional with strong expertise in flood risk management, including a sound understanding of flooding processes and the development and delivery of flood risk management plans. You bring comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and guidelines, along with demonstrated experience providing technical advice and representing an organisation in complex and often sensitive environments.

You are a confident communicator with the ability to translate complex technical information for diverse audiences and influence stakeholders to achieve outcomes. With strong project management skills, you can manage competing priorities, deliver high-quality work under pressure and contribute to strategic program delivery. You are collaborative, solutions-focused and able to build strong relationships across government, industry and community stakeholders to support effective floodplain management outcomes.

Key knowledge and experience

• Sound demonstrated knowledge of flooding processes and the complex operational and strategic requirements for the development and delivery of flood risk management plans.
• Comprehensive knowledge of flood management policies and practice including relevant legislation, policies and guidelines and ability to represent the Agency.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in flood risk management.
• Comprehensive knowledge of guidelines and legislation relevant to flood risk management.
• Strong project management skills with proven ability to plan, coordinate, and manage projects.

Essential requirements

• Appropriate degree level tertiary qualifications in civil or environmental engineering or related disciplines.
• Current Australian drivers licence and willingness to travel.
