The role

As an Environmental Assessment Officer in the Industry Assessment team, you will assess major projects across a wide range of interesting and dynamic sectors that help shape communities, support economic growth and deliver critical infrastructure across NSW. You'll provide expert planning advice that balances community expectations, government priorities and statutory requirements while helping drive better planning outcomes.

Working across a range of projects, you'll analyse complex information, prepare clear recommendations and engage with stakeholders to help deliver better outcomes for the state. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real impact while shaping thriving and connected communities.

What you will bring to the role

• Ability to assess the merits of State significant projects quickly and effectively in sectors such as manufacturing and chemical industries, renewable fuels, the circular economy including large scale waste and recycling, data centres, agricultural and aquaculture, warehouse and distribution facilities, including within the Western Sydney Aerotropolis and State activation precincts. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise and accessible advice, reports and recommendations for diverse audiences.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to research, evaluate complex issues and develop practical solutions to support sound environmental assessment outcomes.
• Outstanding stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build effective relationships, manage competing expectations and work collaboratively with government agencies, industry representatives, developers and community stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to prioritise competing workloads, manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality outcomes within demanding timeframes in a fast-paced environment.

What is an essential requirement:

• Degree in environmental science or management, engineering, planning or other relevant discipline
• Willingness to travel and (minimum) Class C Driver’s License.
