The Bays West Delivery Authority is charged with creating Sydney’s newest precinct, a thriving, connected, sustainable hub with White Bay Power Station as its cultural heart and well connected by the new Metro West line. Its vision is to build on the area’s natural cultural and industrial history to shape a vibrant neighbourhood combining new housing with public open space and opening access to the waterfront for the first time in more than 100 years.


The role

As the Manager, Communications and Stakeholder Engagement, you will shape the newly established media, communications and stakeholder engagement function for the Bays West Delivery Authority, providing trusted strategic advice on complex and high-profile matters. You will have the opportunity to build the function’s foundations, embed best-practice ways of working and guide integrated strategies that support government priorities, strengthen public confidence and clearly communicate the work shaping vibrant places, diverse housing and thriving communities. You will oversee clear, consistent messaging across media, digital, marketing, stakeholder and internal channels, while identifying proactive storytelling opportunities and managing emerging risks in a fast-moving delivery environment.

 

This is an opportunity to provide advice that supports senior decision-making and  build strong relationships across government, media, industry and the community, while representing a significant urban renewal and precinct development program. .You will help define the function’s identity, priorities and operating rhythm, creating an inclusive and collaborative environment while helping deliver meaningful outcomes for NSW. Working across internal teams, Ministerial Offices, delivery partners and external providers, you will coordinate timely communication activity, support issues management and ensure engagement remains aligned, responsive and audience-focused.

 

What you'll bring to the role

  • Significant experience leading strategic communications, media, stakeholder engagement and reputation management in complex or high-profile environments.
  • Proven ability to provide trusted advice to senior executives, government stakeholders and leadership teams on sensitive and complex issues.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling messages across media, digital, stakeholder and internal channels.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across government, industry and community groups.
  • Sound judgement, political acumen and experience managing issues, risks and competing priorities in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience supporting communications and community engagement for major development or urban renewal projects will be highly regarded.

 

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, policy or related discipline and/or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Availability and willingness to respond outside standard working hours when required
