About the role
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is offering a unique opportunity for SPC Operations Supervisor to join the Conservation & Aboriginal Partnerships team. In this role, you’ll supervises volunteer shooters to ensure supplementary pest control (SPC) activities are undertaken safely and effectively with a strong focus on achieving a reduction in the impacts of pest animals on reserve values.
The role offers variety and includes responsibility for:
- Coordinating, liaising with and supervising volunteers and work crews
- Training staff and volunteers in pest animal control techniques and safe firearms use
- Undertaking monitoring, ground shooting, baiting and trapping programs identified in the regional pest management strategies
- Ensuring safe work procedures are followed to meet WH&S legislative requirements and compliance with NPWS Shooting Operations Plans
- Managing and reporting on work programs including undertaking administrative functions as required.
The role will require you to travel regularly away from base location for approximately one week every three weeks to work in remote locations.
Knowledge and experience
- Knowledge of legislation relating to firearms, pest animal and national park management.
- Ability to work with the organisation’s statutory obligations as they apply to conservation of natural, Aboriginal and cultural heritage values and a willingness to exercise regulatory and delegated authorities.
Essential requirements:
- Possession of a current firearms licence and demonstrated ability and experience in the safe use of firearms for pest animal control.
- Current First Aid Certificate and current Australian drivers licence including capacity for four-wheel driving and willingness to fly in light aircraft.
NOTE: Successful applicants must obtain Senior First Aid, cross-cut chainsaw certification and 4WD certification within the first three-months of commencing in the role.
This position is a 7 day work roster and will require work on weekends and public holidays
This is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit, enjoy working outdoors as part of a team, and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining some of NSW’s most precious natural places.
All required training and assessments will be provided by NPWS.
