  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $102,936 to $113,579 + employer's contribution to superannuation

About the role 

Join the National Parks Wildlife Service NPWS as a Threatened Species Assistant Project Officer and help deliver conservation outcomes that make a real difference for some of New South Wales' most vulnerable native species. This role is funded through the Saving Our Species Program until 30 June 2029, you will work within the passionate and supportive West Branch Conservation Team to assist the planning and delivery of projects to protect and enhance threatened species across western NSW. 

This is a unique opportunity to combine hands-on conservation work with project delivery and play a direct role in securing the future of threatened species across western New South Wales. Your focus will be on species protected under the Saving our Species Program such as the Plains Wanderer and Purple Copper Butterfly. Your day-to-day work will be varied with travel to some of the most remote and scenic parks in NSW to collect field data utilising such tools as song recorders and trap cameras as well as data analysis and reporting in the office. You will also work with internal and external stakeholders to research and implement threat mitigation activities including feral animal and weed control.  

 

About You 

We are seeking a motivated and organised conservation professional with experience in environmental management, conservation, threatened species programs, ecology or a related field. You will have a sound understanding of threatened species conservation principles and the ability to support the delivery of projects through strong organisational, administrative and communication skills. Experience working in remote field-based environments, undertaking operational activities and managing competing priorities will be highly regarded.  

 

The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player who is passionate about biodiversity conservation and enjoys working with a diverse range of stakeholders. You will bring strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to contribute to conservation planning, monitoring and reporting activities. A current Australian Class C Driver Licence, willingness to obtain a 4WD certification and a commitment to safe work practices are essential.
