About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for an Assistant Project Off Threatened Species to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage.

The Assistant Project Officer, Threatened Species undertakes works and coordinates and supervises the work of staff, contractors and volunteers for the effective and efficient delivery of priority threatened species programs - Assets of Intergenerational Significance (AIS) and Saving our Species (SoS) - to achieve corporate objectives in conservation and biodiversity management.

Join the National Parks & Wildlife Service as a Threatened Species Assistant Project Officer and help protect some of New South Wales' most vulnerable plants, animals and ecological communities. The North Coast is renowned for its rich biodiversity, from World Heritage-listed rainforests to coastal habitats supporting an incredible diversity of native wildlife.

Based in Alstonville, you will support the planning, implementation and delivery of priority threatened species programs that contribute to long-term biodiversity conservation across one of Australia's most ecologically significant regions. Working alongside conservation specialists and project teams, you will assist with implementing threatened species conservation plans and programs, maintain project documentation and databases, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with legislative and policy requirements. This is a unique opportunity to combine your passion for conservation with practical project delivery that directly supports the recovery and protection of threatened species across the region.

 

About You

This role would suit someone with a strong background in delivery of on-ground conservation projects including building trusted partnerships with external providers and volunteers.

We are seeking a motivated and organised conservation professional with experience in environmental management, conservation, threatened species programs, ecology or a related field. You will have a sound understanding of threatened species conservation principles and the ability to support the delivery of projects through strong organisational, administrative and communication skills. Experience working in field-based environments, undertaking operational activities and managing competing priorities will be highly regarded.

 

The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player who is passionate about biodiversity conservation and enjoys working with a diverse range of stakeholders. You will bring strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to contribute to conservation planning, monitoring and reporting activities. A current Australian Class C Driver Licence, willingness to obtain a 4WD certification and a commitment to safe work practices are essential.  Essential Requirements 

  • Experience working in the field of conservation or threatened species, and knowledge of the principles
  • of threatened species conservation in the context of reserved land.
  • Demonstrated experience in operational works relevant to the role, and ability to supervise and carry
  • out all duties safely in accordance with WHS requirements.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organisational skills and capacity for working with various software
  • Current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent and willingness to obtain a 4WD operation certificate.
