The Aboriginal Outcomes Branch within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is seeking to appoint a Principal Program Officer (Identified) to lead strategic initiatives that drive meaningful outcomes for Aboriginal peoples, communities and organisations across NSW.
About the role
As the Principal Program Officer (Identified), you will lead a high-performing team responsible for the development and delivery of strategic projects and programs that support the department's Aboriginal Outcomes Strategy and Closing the Gap commitments. You will provide high-level strategic, policy and operational advice to senior executives, build strong partnerships with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders, and help shape the ongoing development of the Aboriginal Outcomes Branch.
The role offers the opportunity to influence department-wide priorities, strengthen cultural capability, establish effective governance arrangements, and drive meaningful change through collaboration, innovation and strategic leadership.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will:
Demonstrate a strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures, communities, governance structures and priorities.
Bring extensive experience leading strategic initiatives, programs or projects in complex organisational environments.
Have proven experience providing high-quality strategic, policy and operational advice to senior leaders and stakeholders.
Be an influential communicator with the ability to build trusted relationships, negotiate outcomes and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrate sound judgement, resilience and the ability to navigate complex, sensitive and politically nuanced issues.
Have strong leadership capabilities, with a track record of developing high-performing teams and fostering a collaborative and culturally responsive workplace.
Be committed to improving outcomes for Aboriginal peoples and supporting the department's Closing the Gap commitments.

Essential requirements
This is an identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
Sensitivity to and understanding Aboriginal Culture and an excellent understanding of Aboriginal community governance and structures.
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or demonstrated equivalent industry or professional experience.
