About the role - This is a Part Time vacancy - 2 days per week for up to 10 weeks

As the assistant Quality Engineer, your key focus is to ensure that Halfords products are fit-for-purpose, safe and legal.

Working across a number of product groups, you will provide proactive and timely product technologist and quality assurance contribution to the development of products, product information and manufacturing processes relevant to Halfords products.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluation of products to verify compliance with company standards and all relevant legislation.
  • To propose quality improvements, concerns management activities and product development programmes. Produce customer insights packs on product quality performance for Range Reviews.
  • Completing product specifications and assessing suppliers to ensure they can consistently manufacture products to the correct specification.
  • Implement quality assurance processes and procedures to ensure that products meet the required quality standards before product being launched.
  • Assure that the samples meet the company’s requirements by reviewing & arranging sign-off in various stages, including tender, pre-production, mass production, etc
  • Travel as necessary within the UK, Europe and Asia in collaboration with HGS Teams in Hong Kong and Shanghai and Taiwan, to assure at-pace product development and in support of sourcing activities to fulfil the role.
  • Investigate customer feedback and data by conducting failure analysis like identifying the root causes, planning for future improvements, preparing the Corrective and Preventive Action Plan (CAP)
  • Work and support across the Quality Team in other product areas, as required

 

Skills & Experience

  • Professionally qualified to BSc in Engineering, Product Design, Applied Science or Manufacturing disciplines, or equivalent other experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of practical experience in product development and product technical/quality assurance in a Retail Quality/Technical/Technologist buying support role of General Merchandise or Consumer Products, and some specialist product or in-depth knowledge or subject matter expertise.
  • Some previous exposure to  Motoring or Cycling Category products, chemicals, mechanical products, electronics or Electrical Engineering, or hardline products would be desirable
  • Awareness  of product manufacturing and the quality principles involved (ISO 9000).
  • Awareness  of manufacturing technologies, product design or sourcing with extended supply chain, digital business and the application of quality management systems would be beneficial.
