Salary: £55,000 - £70,000pa Commensurate with Experience
Business Area: Halfords Support Centre

Job Purpose:

Partners with senior leaders to support the delivery of the people strategy in the respective teams. Builds the people and leadership capability of Halfords through key performance, talent and leadership interventions.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Champions and drives the people strategy, holding leaders to account. Focus is on the future, ensuring organisational design enables fulfilment of the plan.
  • Understands the functional people gaps and builds capability to address these through internal development initiatives and external appointments
  • Supports the improvement of engagement, ensuring action plans are built and retention risks mitigated within remit of accountability
  • Embeds a performance management culture, taking action to develop high performing teams. Ensures Talent and Succession Plans are in place for partnered functions

 

  • Works collaboratively with the centres of expertise supports recruitment and employee relations, advising and supporting leaders as appropriate
  • Improves HR efficiency and process, removing nonvalue add activity, automating or making recommendations for self-service where opportunities exist
  • Measures performance through key people metrics and scorecards and drives action for success
  • Builds trusted relationships, holds the mirror up with leaders, challenging activity that doesn’t align with the plan or behaviours that disengage

Key Skills, Functional Experience & Qualifications

  • Substantial HR experience, some of which should be in a similar role in a large or medium sized organisation, the role holder will have experience of partnering at director level and ideally should be a Professional Member of CIPD or demonstrate the equivalent experience
  • The role holder will have self-belief in their personal ability to make a difference to the business. They will have excellent interpersonal skills, including effective relationship building and influencing skills.  As an experienced business partner, they will have a high level of emotional intelligence and be diplomatic and confident working across a wide range of stakeholders with the ability to quickly establish and maintain credibility with Directors, Managers and Colleagues.  Effective judgement and decision making is needed alongside the ability to create innovative and flexible solutions to business issues.
  •  Good written and spoken communication and be accurate and confident when dealing with data. They will have Strong commercial acumen with excellent questioning and analytical skills which are critical in adding value to the business. The role requires high levels of initiative and attention to detail with a creative approach to problem solving.   Good project skills are required to lead a range of projects.
  • A highly customer centric approach with a proven track record of tenacious delivery, demonstrable business understanding and strategic awareness ensuring that HR plays a pivotal role in delivery of business goals.
  • Strong IT skills, with experience of Microsoft Office, HR databases and excellent spread sheet skills are essential.  A demonstrable knowledge and understanding of employment law and its application is required with the ability to apply that knowledge to a range of situations and contexts.
