About the role

We are looking for a Health and Safety Process Specialist to support a robust and sustainable health and safety culture across Halfords garages and Halfords mobile experts. Overcoming cultural and behavioural challenges to monitor and steer progress whilst identifying the impact of safety processes and practices, ensuring these are implemented to the highest possible standards. This role will build rapport and strengthen relationships across the Halfords Group to both empower & promote colleagues to take ownership of health & safety.

Key responsibilities

  • To proactively assist with the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of all health & safety strategies, policies, standards, and procedures throughout the Halfords Group.
  • To support and play an active role in delivering the Halfords Group Health & Safety Roadmap.
  • To undertake workplace/area inspections to proactively identify where health & safety management practices and overall standards can be improved.
  • Provide written reports by the way of inspection, visible safety leadership (VSL) where necessary to assist Halfords in implementing solutions to improve its overall health & safety performance.
  • Provide both competent and expert advice on all health & safety matters that arise when called upon.
  • To lead on the development of Health and Safety training materials working with the training team on creation and delivery of this training.
  • To lead the production, review and coordination of risk assessments and safe working procedures, ensuring they meets the specific requirements of the Group.
  • Assist the Senior Health & Safety Business Partners in maintaining effective working relationships with Halfords Directors, Managers, Colleagues, Trade Unions, Partners, Contractors, and all other relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify, promote, and raise awareness of ‘Good Practice’ throughout the Halfords Group.
  • To liaise and support the Halfords Group on any matters concerned or connected with Employee and Public Liability whilst always maintaining the strictest confidentiality.
  • Assist the Health & Safety Senior Business Partner (Process and Policy) with the coordination of group wide initiatives to aid continuous improvement in all matters related to health & safety.

About you

  • Established experience within a health & safety advisor or coordinator position.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification (NVQ 5) is desirable.
  • Proven record of promoting a positive health & safety performance culture.
  • Ability to influence, persuade and negotiate with both internal & external stakeholders at a management level.
  • Proven experience in the creation and delivery of training materials.
  • Lead the prioritisation and creation of risk assessments and SSOW.
  • Ability to both prioritise and mitigate risk.
  • Flexible and able to work independently.
  • Organisational & planning skills with strong attention to detail.

This is a field-based role that involves flexibility in traveling to garages across the UK as well as Halfords support centre when required.
