Flood/Project Engineer

Full Time - Permanent (Part Time, Job Share and School Hours Flexibility will all be considered)

Band 7 - $105,898.17 - $118,398.6 + super + RDO (RDO applicable for full time 38 hours per week only)

The Drainage and Stormwater Unit at Yarra City Council has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Flood Engineer.

You will be joining a team to undertake the following, including (but not limited to):

  • Flood Risk Assessment and Reporting:

    • Prepare detailed flood reports assessing the flood risk of sites subject to inundation using council flood maps.
    • Set flood related requirements and conditions in consultation with relevant floodplain management authorities and consultant advice.
    • Provide reports and consent for building on flood-prone land under Regulation 153 and 154 of the Building Regulations 2018.
  • Project Management:

    • Manage and deliver projects related to stormwater drainage and flood mitigation.
    • Secure drainage contributions and ensure effective flood mitigation programs.
    • Determine and manage project priorities to ensure effective application of resources and achievement of project outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Liaise with external stakeholders such as Melbourne Water, DELWP, and State Emergency Services.
    • Establish and maintain professional relationships with contractors, government agencies, and allied professionals.
  • Technical Leadership:

    • Provide leadership, direction, mentoring, and support to team members.
    • Ensure effective engagement and use of skills, competencies, and expertise to drive operational efficiencies and quality.
    • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the capital works unit’s professional services and systems.
  • Flood Map Updates and Planning:

    • Update flood maps in readiness for the lodgement of Regulation 153 and Planning Scheme Amendment (SBO2).
    • Provide specialist advice and input into the development and implementation of the Council’s Stormwater Management Plan.
  • Compliance and Standards:

    • Maintain council’s professional standards, ensuring compliance with budget targets, service quality, QA, OH&S, and environmental standards.
    • Prepare and manage budgets effectively, ensuring appropriate financial management and reporting.
  • Community and Environment:

    • Build and maintain positive relationships with other Council units, local community organizations, and service providers.
    • Support the facilitation of local consultations to inform the planning and delivery of capital works projects.
    • Demonstrate leadership in reducing Yarra’s emissions and building a climate resilient future by embedding climate considerations into all of Councils activities.
