Suspension of Drexel University's Contribution into 403(b) Retirement Plan

As communicated on Oct. 10, Drexel University is suspending its contributions to employee retirement plans for calendar year 2025 as part of its multi-year plan to build financial resilience. Job Summary

The Leadership Annual Giving Officer will facilitate engagement and active solicitations among museum visitors, program attendees, current/lapsed members and donors, and Drexel alumni and parents. The primary function of this position is to build relationships with these prospective donors to identify their area of interest, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward philanthropic support, ultimately growing the individual donor base through active solicitations and annual fund solicitations.

The Leadership Annual Giving Officer is a member of the Academy’s Advancement team and has the primary responsibility of front-line solicitation for gifts. This position will focus twofold on increasing annual gifts and building the pipeline of donors exhibiting a giving capacity of $1,500 to $49,999 while identifying potential major gift donors. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities and reports to the Director of Annual Giving.

Essential Functions

  • Implement the Academy’s comprehensive annual giving program, meeting or exceeding the annual revenue targets. 
  • Coordinate with the Director of Annual Giving and Prospect and Stewardship Manager on creating a monthly outreach plan that outlines fundraising goals and strategies designed to engage and solicit a portfolio of prospects and donors. 
  • Develop and analyze giving reports to make data-driven decisions and provide weekly updates on progress toward budget and revenue targets. 
  • Maintain a schedule of 12 visits per month including face-to-face, tours, virtual and phone, provided the visit is engaging, substantive, and moves the prospect/donor forward. 
  • Manage an active portfolio of 150+ donors.
  • Reach out to a defined minimum of prospects/donors each month with carryover from prior months to maintain a defined active portfolio. 
  • Craft innovative solicitations and appeals targeting current, lapsed, and potential donors that attract new gifts and increase current contributions. 
  • Encourage constituents to progress as donors by joining the Collaborators Circles ($1,500 or more annually). 
  • Coordinate with the Marketing Manager to develop a strong online fundraising presence on digital platforms. 
  • Coordinate with Prospect and Stewardship Manager on the donor acknowledgment process. 
  • Seek opportunities to identify referrals and find new prospects to engage. 
  • Identify and move high-level annual giving level donors to the major gift pool ($50,000+), helping to grow the donor pipeline. 
  • Work with unit leadership to help identify key volunteers and constituencies to establish and promote events that identify, cultivate, and steward prospects. 
  • Plan and support donor engagement and cultivation events in partnership with the Events Unit and Programming Unit. 
  • Serve as frontline staff to represent and promote The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University to constituents. 
  • Maintain knowledge of current Academy and Drexel university-wide institutional priorities and giving opportunities. Works collaboratively with colleagues across units. 
  • Adhere to performance goals and standards for development officers as specified by the Office of Institutional Advancement and Unit leadership.
  • Follows procedures regarding prospect management and documenting contacts. Responsible for oversight and submission of all relative fundraising reports, statistics, projections and publications. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum of Three or more years of related experience with demonstrated success in annual giving fundraising, preferably in a cultural institution, environmental non-profit/NGO or higher education. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel required.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends required as needed.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Excellent administrative skills required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Face-to-face fundraising, phonathon, and/or outreach in a development program preferred.
  • Web/digital platform fundraising experience preferred.
  • Prior experience building reports that inform decisions preferred.
  • Forward thinking and strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple high priorities simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
  • Program and pipeline building experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of prospect management systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of database fundraising software including Altru and CS Advance preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Exempt, grade K. Compensation for this grade ranges from $54,630.00 - $81,940.00 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
