Job Summary:

The Director of the Little River Canyon Center is responsible for all aspects of the center’s operations, planning, and management. This role involves overseeing the development and implementation of programs, managing staff, and ensuring the center meets its strategic goals. The Director will work closely with community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders to promote the center's mission and enhance its visibility and impact.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the Little River Canyon Center, ensuring efficient and effective management.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve the center's goals and objectives.
  • Manage and supervise staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster relationships with community partners, government agencies, and other stakeholders to enhance collaboration and support for the center.
  • Plan and coordinate events, programs, and activities that align with the center's mission and goals.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare and manage the center's budget, ensuring financial sustainability and accountability.
  • Represent JSU and the center at community meetings, regional events, and industry-related forums.
  • Develop and deliver presentations and written materials for a variety of audiences and venues.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, planning, or related field.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in government, nonprofit, public affairs or in a similar operating environment, with a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and written.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree, in business, public administration, planning, or a related field.
  • Experience in intergovernmental affairs, municipal experience.
  • Experience working with educators (in both P-12 and higher education) and scientists, particularly regarding issues of natural history and/or environmental conservation.
