Assistant Professor, Political Science
Jacksonville State University is accepting applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Political Science in the Department of Sociology and Political Science. This is a full-time, tenure-track position with a primary teaching focus, carrying a 4/4 teaching load. The successful candidate will have a background in Public Law and American government, with a strong foundation in law and legal studies.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Political Science or closely related field, from an accredited university by the proposed start date.
- Candidate’s first field of study should be either Public Law or American Government–with the ability to teach law and legal studies at the undergraduate-level.
- College level teaching experience.
- Willingness to teach in traditional, hybrid, and online modalities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstration of effective teaching (e.g., peer reviews, student evaluations, evidence of student success).
- Interest in mentoring undergraduate students, including LSAT preparation.
- Record of scholarly achievement (e.g., peer-reviewed publication, conference presentation, and/or published journalism).

The Political Science Program has a rich history of mentoring students across numerous interests to achieve their goals. Students have been selected for the American Bar Foundation’s Summer Research Fellowship, an internship with the Governor of Alabama, an internship with the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, and more.
