Adjunct Faculty Position

Job Summary

The Aviation Program at Jacksonville State University (JSU) invites applications for qualified adjunct faculty to teach undergraduate courses in Aviation. Courses may be offered in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats depending on program needs. Adjunct faculty are expected to provide high-quality instruction that supports student learning and aligns with program and university standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for teaching assigned aviation courses and may be asked to instruct specialized topics within the Aviation curriculum. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and delivering course content aligned with approved syllabi and learning outcomes
  • Providing instruction in areas such as aviation meteorology, aerodynamics, aircraft systems, navigation, aviation regulations, safety, human factors, air traffic control, or other aviation-related topics
  • Maintaining accurate records for attendance, assessments, and grades
  • Submitting grades and required documentation by university deadlines
  • Using the university’s learning management system for course delivery and communication, as applicable

Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet one or more of the following qualification pathways to be considered:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Aeronautical Science, Aerospace, or a closely related field with demonstrated professional expertise in aviation, or
  • Training and experience in aviation sufficient to qualify the individual to teach specific aviation courses, consistent with university and accreditation standards

In addition, candidates must demonstrate direct education and/or professional experience related to the aviation topics they are expected to teach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Aviation, Aeronautical Science, or a related discipline
  • Current or prior FAA certifications such as Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor–Instrument (CFII), Ground Instructor (GI/AGI), or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP)
  • Professional flight or aviation industry experience (e.g., Part 61, Part 135, Part 121, military aviation, airport operations, or aviation management)
  • College or university teaching experience
  • Experience teaching in online or hybrid learning environments
