General Summary of Position:

The Office of Residence Life is looking for a dynamic, student centered person to fill our Assistant Director of Housing for Communications position! The Assistant Director of Housing for Communications (ADHC) will oversee the day-to-day communication and marketing strategies related to on campus living.  The ADHC will also assist with long-term projects and communication strategies for the entire Office of Residence Life team. Using university brand standards, the ADHC will be responsible for creating accurate and engaging communications targeting both internal and external audiences for our: website, email/text messaging, documents, and social media platforms. The ADHC will also assist with marketing and photo/video graphing of departmental events such as move-in, housing selection, and open house/welcome days. The ADHC will be responsible for creating and implementing an annual comprehensive housing marketing campaign and will work with all members of the housing team on major annual projects and programs including: room selection, break housing, transition housing, and early arrival/late departures. A successful candidate will possess strong creative design skills, attention to detail, and have strengths in creating written communications, videos, and photos. This position is a P16 salary range position.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Communications Management: Develop written communications plans, materials, timelines, and marketing to support the goals and needs of the Residence Life team. Create accurate and engaging communications, targeting both internal and external audiences, for the Residence Life website, email/text messaging, documents, and social media platforms. Create and edit visual media such as flyers, print & digital signage, videos, brochures, and interactive experiences to support the marketing needs of the department. Serve as the primary administrator for the departmental website, social media platforms, and digital signage displays.
  • Occupancy Management: Responsible for working with Housing team on occupancy management planning for academic year and summer operations. Support the occupancy management goals through working with the Housing team to coordinate the opening and closing of all residence halls for all semester and vacation periods.  Assist with coordinating the Office of Residence Life’s role in university-wide recruitment events, such as Open House and Welcome Days, including creation of materials to support the events. Oversee the occupancy management of assigned residence hall, including the coordination of check-ins, check-outs, fire, health, and safety inspections, roster verification, room switches, room condition reports, and damage billing.
  • Service: Effectively respond to students and parents through walk-ins, phone calls, and emails. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of student development, the division of academic & student affairs, and student services. Serve as a resource and make referrals as appropriate. Build effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the department and university by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance as needed. Ensure optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information. Maintain an inclusive office environment that is welcoming campus constituents.
  • Supervision: Recruit, train, and supervise 1-5 student marketing assistants who are responsible for assisting in capturing and producing creative content for the Residence Life team. Serve as a resource for this team to develop their skills and competency in communications and marketing. Provide recommendations and guidance for social media content and moderation.
  • Data Analytics and Strategy: Review website and housing portal analytics to develop recommendations to improve the organization and layout of information and processes. Understand current trends in digital communications to improve accessibility of information.
  • Some weekend and evening work are required. This position may be required to respond to large campus crises and incidents, as necessary. The position will serve in our on-call duty rotation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification (Required):

  • Minimum 3 years full-time experience in marketing, content creation, or student affairs at a college or university
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, public relations, communications, or related field
  • Experience drafting professional communications
  • Exceptional writing skills
  • Strong creative design skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience with video and photo editing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in higher education administration, CSP, counseling, business, marketing, public relations, communications, or related field preferred
  • Prior full-time experience in residence life or housing at a college or university
  • Highly proficient in using Adobe Creative Cloud including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat. (Added skills in Premier Pro, After Effects, and HTML are a plus)
  • Experience working with a diverse population of students and/or clients
  • Knowledge of current trends and advancements in marketing, advertising, and multimedia, including digital marketing
  • Knowledge of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and other higher education laws
  • Demonstrate integrity, initiative, dependability, openness, teamwork, a positive attitude, a commitment to the tenets of student development and creation of inclusive communities, as well as the values and mission of the University
