General Summary of Position:

The employer relations specialist markets UMass Lowell and its students to prospective employers. The employer relations specialist works closely with staff and faculty to implement strategies, policies, and procedures that ensure a high-quality recruiting program. Working as part of a career development team devoted to sharing with students the practices, experiences, and networks needed for their professional growth, the employer relations specialist cultivates partnerships that provide students with rich internship, co-op and career opportunities.  

The employer relations specialist responds to employer inquiries, conducts outreach to new employers, and connects them to the services, resources, and programs best suited for their needs. The university recognizes that to provide exceptional programs, like co-op and internships, employer development is a critical role. This position is a key contributor to employer engagement through recruiting and career development activities. 

The Career & Co-op Center provides students and alumni with comprehensive career development support to successfully transition from their academic pursuits to their career goals by promoting and facilitating career education, exploration of options and connections with employers. The Career & Co-op Center is a part of the Division of Student Affairs. This is a dynamic division involved in key university-wide strategic initiatives, such as experiential learning, corporate engagement, retention, and diversity and inclusion. 

This position is contingent upon funding. This is a private foundation funded, temporary, full time, benefited position. Position funding timeframe is 2024-2027. Continued employment is contingent upon renewed funding.

Key Responsibilities:

EMPLOYER DEVELOPMENT:

  • Interact frequently with employers about recruiting providing advice, connecting them with the recruiting platform, on-campus recruiting options, career fairs and other ways of reaching students and alumni.
  • Contribute to the implementation of strategies, policies, and procedures that ensure a high-quality recruiting and engagement program, reflecting the needs and expectations of UMass Lowell students and employers.
  • Assist with planning and organizing events that enhance employer visibility and engagement with students, such as career fairs, networking events, corporate days, virtual events, off-campus site visits, etc.
  • Assist with the office’s employer outreach activities, plan, and participate in employer site visits, and stay up to date on employment trends and career development issues.
  • Identify employer leads through data analysis and as an active ambassador between UMass Lowell and the employment community.

MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Market UMass Lowell and its students to prospective employers.
  • Write marketing collateral for employers, including but not limited to email campaigns and web site content.
  • Coordinate a communications calendar.
  • Identify and promote featured job postings and employer events to targeted student populations.
  • Engage in networking events, site visits, on-campus meetings, scheduled calls, marketing campaigns and other outreach initiatives.

OPERATIONS:

  • Review employer, job posting, interview and event requests for approval.
  • Maintain accurate company and contact records, activity, and notes in CRM.
  • Provide support for annual First Destination Career Outcome study.
  • Generate reports on recruiting activity, as needed by campus leaders

COLLABORATIONS:

  • Collaborate across the Career & Co-op Center with outreach to and engagement of employers, support career fair planning, and support career development efforts.
  • Collaborate with relevant student and staff leaders to support career development efforts through employer engagement.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree AND at least 2 years of relevant experience
    -OR-
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant field AND some relevant experience
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Customer service skills
  • Ability to work with others
  • Proficiency with technology including Excel and information systems (e.g., Salesforce, Handshake)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education, recruiting or talent acquisition preferred

Special Instructions to Applicants:

This is an SEIU Professional Union position, Grade P15.
