Mutual of Omaha is seeking an Innovation Director to lead the development and execution of enterprise-wide innovation programs that foster a culture of innovation, drive business growth, and enhance our market position. This strategic role requires deep expertise in insurance lines, the ability to leverage emerging technologies, and an understanding of market trends to create and support innovation agendas across the company. The ideal candidate will collaborate cross-functionally with key business units to align innovation strategies and ensure seamless execution. WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

  • Estimated Salary: Minimum: $153,000 - $205,000, plus annual bonus opportunity.
  • Benefits and Perks, 401(k) plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match.
  • Regular associates working 40 hours a week can earn up to 15 days of vacation each year.
  • Regular associates receive 11 paid holidays in 2025, which includes 2 floating holidays that are added to your prorated personal time to be used at your discretion.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Innovation Strategy Development: Design and implement forward-thinking innovation programs that engage stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • Market Research & Trend Analysis:  Lead comprehensive research and discovery initiatives to uncover emerging trends, technologies, and customer demands that can inform innovative business, product, and/or capability development.  Be a thought leader on the future of insurance.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership:  Curate cross-functional teams in the ideation, discovery, and design of new concepts, tests and pilots, ensuring alignment with market needs and organizational goals.
  • Change Management: Foster a culture of innovation within the organization by promoting best practices, facilitating workshops, and leading training sessions to engage employees at all levels.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including the Insurtech entrepreneurial ecosystem) to encourage collaboration, gather insights, and ensure successful implementation of innovation initiatives.
  • Performance Measurement: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success of innovation initiatives, providing regular updates to senior management on progress against strategic goals.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in a leadership role focused on innovation within the insurance industry or related sectors, with a proven track record of launching innovative products or services at a strategic level.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret complex market data and trends to inform innovation strategies and business decisions.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Proven leadership in managing cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders at all levels to drive innovation initiatives aligned with business objectives.
  • Problem-Solving & Strategic Thinking: Creative problem-solving abilities to develop novel solutions for complex challenges, along with a forward-thinking approach to shaping and executing innovation agendas.
  • You promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, value different ideas and opinions, and listen courageously, remaining curious in all that you do.
  • Ability to work at our home office located in Omaha, Nebraska, in a hybrid environment. 

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s degree
  • Technology Expertise: Familiarity with emerging technologies relevant to the insurance sector (e.g., Generative AI, blockchain, Insurtech) is highly desirable.
