Join Mutual of Omaha as an AWS Software Platform Engineer on our Common Technology Platform (CTP) Agile Release Train (ART) within the Department of Cloud (DOC); a team shaping how we design, build, and scale secure AWS solutions across the enterprise. You will advance our AWS ecosystem by driving our AWS CDK library and AWS Config Rules, enabling automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and a world-class developer experience for teams modernizing on Amazon Web Services. In this high-impact role, you will help define the future of Mutual of Omaha's technology platform used by internal I/S teams, business partners, and ultimately our customers.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:
- Estimated Salary - Engineer II or III: $125,000 - $145,000, plus annual bonus opportunity.
- 401k plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match.
- Work-life balance with vacation, personal time and paid holidays.
- Applicants for this position must not now, nor at any point in the future, require sponsorship for employment.
This role is classified as remote; however, periodic in-person attendance will be required at times for activities such as quarterly or project planning, training, or other business-critical meetings
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Create innovative cloud solutions by designing and automating infrastructure using AWS CDK, TypeScript, and APIs - bringing ideas to life with Infrastructure as Code.
- Partner with teams across the organization to uncover challenges, accelerate delivery, and make the developer experience seamless through modern self-service tools.
- Apply engineering excellence to solve complex infrastructure problems - driving automation, self-healing capabilities, and reusable components that scale.
- Lead lifecycle automation for distributed cloud platforms, ensuring smooth configuration, deployment, and monitoring for a stable, secure environment.
- Build and optimize secure cloud networks, including load balancers, firewalls, and VPN connectivity, to keep our systems resilient and reliable.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- Production TypeScript Expertise: 5+ years of software development experience, with a heavy emphasis on TypeScript (including advanced types, interface design, and asynchronous patterns).
- Production AWS CDK Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience authoring, deploying, and debugging infrastructure explicitly using AWS CDK v2 in TypeScript. Experience must include writing custom L3 constructs with proper scoping and lifecycle controls.
- Advanced IaC and State Management: Strong experience managing complex infrastructure as code deployments. This includes handling CDK aspects, escape hatches (modifying underlying L1 CloudFormation structures), cross-stack references, and structural deployment barriers.
- Testing and CI/CD Pipelines: Experience implementing automated testing for CDK infrastructure using the aws-cdk-lib assertions assertions framework (e.g., Matchers, Template testing) and integrating CDK synthesis / deployment into automated pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or AWS CodePipeline).
- Operational Engineering: Strong background in cloud architectural design, testing, and operational support. Proven track record of building highly reusable, modular code components and implementing cloud governance or security compliance (such as CDK - nag).
- You promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, value different ideas and opinions, and listen courageously, remaining curious in all that you do.
- Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.
PREFERRED:
- Ability to challenge the authenticity and effectiveness of team processes where opportunities for improvement exist.
- Learn quickly when facing new problems and are a relentless and versatile learner, open to change.
- Enjoy the challenge of unfamiliar tasks and ambiguity.
