Join our Legal team as a Senior Attorney supporting Group Insurance, where you’ll serve as a trusted legal advisor on matters related to absence management, disability and leave programs. In this role, you’ll partner closely with business leaders and cross-functional teams to navigate an evolving regulatory environment, provide practical guidance on federal and state leave requirements, and help shape solutions that balance compliance, customer needs and business objectives. WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

  • Base Salary: $176,500 - $245,000, plus annual bonus and long-term incentive opportunity.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor to Group Insurance leaders, providing practical counsel in support of strategic and operational business objectives.
  • Provide specialized legal guidance related to the sale, distribution and administration of insurance products and services, including review and interpretation of contracts and service agreements.
  • Advise on absence management, disability and leave-related matters, including applicable federal and state laws, regulations and evolving compliance requirements.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate legal, regulatory and business risk, balancing compliance obligations with business and customer objectives.
  • Select, manage and collaborate with outside counsel, overseeing case strategy, budgets, fees and overall effectiveness.
  • Partner cross-functionally with business teams, leadership and key stakeholders to resolve complex legal matters, influence business decisions and support compliant business practices.  

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and a license to practice law in Nebraska (or to qualify for licensing in Nebraska).
  • Significant legal experience advising on complex regulatory, contractual, statutory and administrative matters, ideally within the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise as a trusted legal advisor and subject matter expert, with the ability to build strong relationships and influence leaders at all levels.
  • Strong strategic thinking, business acumen and judgment, with a proven ability to analyze complex issues, manage risk and develop practical, business-focused solutions.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation and relationship-management skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and collaborate across teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • You promote a collaborative culture, value different ideas and opinions, and listen courageously, remaining curious in all that you do.
  • Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.

PREFERRED:

  • 10+ years of legal experience within a leading law firm, Fortune 500 corporate legal department, insurance carrier or absence management organization.
  • Deep expertise in absence management, disability and employee leave programs, with experience advising on FMLA, ADA, paid family and medical leave, state leave requirements and related regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of the group insurance industry, including the regulatory and business considerations associated with disability, leave and absence management products and services.
  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic legal counsel on product development, administration, contracts, compliance and regulatory matters within a complex, multi-state environment.
