At Mutual of Omaha, we're modernizing how we connect with customers, partners, and Third-Party Benefit Administrators through API-first and event-driven solutions. We're seeking a seasoned software engineer with a background building cloud-native applications and integrations who enjoys remaining hands-on while serving as a mentor and technical leader for other developers. 

As a Solutions Lead, you'll play a critical role in shaping the technology direction of our products and platforms while guiding a team of engineers through design, delivery, and continuous improvement. This role requires a strong systems thinker who can see beyond immediate requirements to understand the broader architectural landscape, ensuring solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned to enterprise objectives.

You'll lead and coach developers while remaining hands-on in solution design, technical decision-making, and delivery execution. Success in this role requires balancing strategic architectural thinking with day-to-day development leadership, while leveraging emerging technologies, including AI-assisted development tools, to improve engineering throughput, quality, and team effectiveness.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

  • Estimated Salary (Levels have variable responsibilities and qualifications) 
      • Engineer II: $115,000 - $135,000, plus annual bonus opportunity
      • Engineer III: $135,000 - $155,000, plus annual bonus opportunity

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of software engineers through solution design, development, and delivery.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to define scalable, enterprise-ready solutions.
  • Drive architectural discussions and influence technical direction across multiple initiatives.
  • Design and implement cloud-native applications and services using Java, Spring, Boot, Mulesoft and AWS technologies.
  • Develop and support REST-based APIs and event-driven integrations utilizing technologies such as Kafka and MongoDB
     
  • Promote engineering best practices related to architecture, scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Champion the adoption of AI-enabled development tools and practices to improve productivity and accelerate delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership across the software development lifecycle, from requirements through production support.
  • Support a diverse technology ecosystem, including applications with React-based front-end components.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • 5+ years experience leading technical teams and mentoring software engineers.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and system design capabilities.
  • Ability to understand and communicate both tactical solutions and long-term architectural strategy.
  • Hands-on experience building cloud-native applications using Java, Spring Boot, and AWS.
  • Experience working with REST APIs, event-driven architectures, Kafka, and MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with modern software engineering practices and AI-assisted development tools.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  •  

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with MuleSoft and API-led integration patterns.
  • Exposure to React applications and supporting front-end development teams.
  • Experience influencing architecture and solution design across multiple teams or product areas.

This role is classified as remote; however, periodic in-person attendance will be required at times for activities such as quarterly or project planning, training, or other business-critical meetings.
