Data Engineer I/II - Data Analytics & Solutions (DAS) — LIS ART, Retail Solutions

We are seeking a data-driven, detail-oriented Data Engineer II to join Mutual of Omaha's Data Analytics & Solutions (DAS) team, part of the LIS Agile Release Train within the Retail Solutions segment. This role is a strong fit for a data engineering professional who wants hands-on ownership of production data pipelines and room to grow into a more senior engineering track.

The DAS team owns the data behind the scenes for our retail applications and reporting teams. You'll support production data systems, build and maintain ETL pipelines, and help lead the team's ongoing migration of our data warehouse from Teradata to Snowflake, with AWS Glue and continued mainframe decommissioning on the roadmap for the next 6–12 months.

This role will partner closely with other engineering, BA, and reporting teams that consume DAS owned data, including application teams like the Data Integration Hub, to keep data flowing reliably across the business.

We're looking for someone who already has hands-on data engineering experience and is comfortable working with real autonomy. This team moves quickly and gives engineers real ownership.

• Estimated Salary:
  • Data Engineer I: $110,000 - $116,000
  • Data Engineer II: $130,000 – $135,000

• Primarily remote, with periodic onsite collaboration for team-building sessions and PI planning (up to four times a year).

This role is classified as remote; however, periodic in-person attendance will be required at times for activities such as PI planning, team-building sessions, or other business-critical meetings.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Build, debug, and maintain ETL pipelines that move and transform data across the team's supported systems.
• Investigate customer and business-partner data requests, validate data, and troubleshoot where information is missing or incorrect.
• Support the active migration from Teradata to Snowflake — tracing source tables in Teradata, building equivalent Snowflake tables, and ensuring downstream consumers see a seamless transition.
• Write and maintain advanced SQL and stored procedures across Teradata, Snowflake, Oracle, and DB2.
• Partner with other engineering, BA, and reporting teams that consume DAS-owned data, including application teams (e.g., the Data Integration Hub) that call on DAS data behind the scenes.
• Participate in a daily 30-minute developer collaboration session to raise blockers and work through problems with the team.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning (roughly every 3 weeks) and PI planning.
• Maintain data quality through systematic approaches within supported data systems.
• Help lead and mentor other developers through technical challenges.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

• 6+ years of professional experience in data engineering / data systems development, or equivalent.
• Advanced SQL knowledge, including writing and maintaining stored procedures.
• Hands-on experience across multiple relational/data-warehouse platforms: Teradata, Snowflake, Oracle, and DB2.
• Strong ETL experience, proficient with ETL tooling such as Informatica / IDMC.
• Working knowledge of Unix scripting, sufficient to understand and support existing scripts.
• Understanding of data warehouse concepts and cloud data environments.
• Familiarity with GitHub for source control.
• Strong debugging skills to support production issues.
• Experience working on an Agile team.
• Willingness to learn AWS and AWS Glue, and to pick up new ETL technologies as the team modernizes.
• Able to work independently with minimal oversight — this team runs with a high degree of autonomy, so self-driven, decisive contributors do best here.
• Able to work remotely, with the ability to travel onsite for team events up to four times a year.
• Participation in an on-call rotation shared with the team, roughly every 5–6 weeks (one week as primary, following week as backup); after-hours pages are infrequent.

PREFERRED:

• SAFe Agile experience.
• Exposure to Control-M or similar job-scheduling tools.
• Windows scripting, in addition to Unix.
• Familiarity with mainframe environments.
• API integration experience.
• Located near the Mutual of Omaha office.
